This past week I was out of town for a mini break before starting my new job and got to indulge in some photography. Since I have been pretty busy with learning everything for the new job, I don't have time to put together a really thought out post. So, here are some pictures I took on my break.

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Lunar New Year! Hubs and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day, but this year we didn't even have time to if we wanted to. Today is the Lunar New Year. Many Asian cultures base their calendar on the lunar calendar so the new year changes from year to year. This year it happened to fall on Valentine's Day.

Lunar New Year is a time when you visit and spend lots of time with family and praying to your ancestors. Oh and lots of eating is involved :). There are lots of superstitions involved with preparing for the new year and what you can and can't do for the first two weeks. There is also lots of praying for good fortune for the upcoming year and looking at your horoscope.

This year is the year of the Tiger and for me, I should be cautious this year. If you would like to know what your Chinese Astrology for this year is, go to this site.

A few weeks ago I wrote this post about having an agent. Well, my agent pushed me to get a new job. It wasn't that I didn't like my current job, it was just that a new opportunity came up in something totally different and i was a little nervous because I had NO experience in this field what so ever. And I was afraid about being confident. But my agent pushed me and made me see that I could do this and that I deserve this.

So next week I start my new job! And this week I will be off for a mini break with my friends and indulge in my hobby. So there will be no posting this week. But when I get back I should be able to post more and make comments on everyone's blogs which were blocked at my previous job.

The Socialite

So I have to admit, I really don't know who Olivia Palermo is. Other than the fact she was a socialite and then appeared on Whitney Port's show "The City". But I have seen more and more pictures of her recently and her style and hair really catch my eye.

I was excited to read in my of my magazines the other day that she was going to tell everyone the products she actually uses. Last month I did a post on Gwen Stefani's beauty regime and was surprised to find that she used some pretty attainable products (unlike Kim Kardashian's $80 concealer). I think its comforting to know that "celebs" who have all this money actually buy products that we can afford.

1. Vaseline - She uses Vaseline to remove her makeup. I have never tried this myself but it does make sense. I may have to invest in a jar because there are so many uses for Vaseline including making your own lipgloss.

2. Baby Powder - Olivia uses baby powder on her face instead of using blotting paper and on her roots instead of dry shampoo. I have heard of baby powder being used as dry shampoo but never in place of blotting powder. That is a great tip for anyone who has lots of baby powder left over from making their DIY dry shampoo.

3. Revlon eyelash curler - "My favorite drugstore find is my Revlon eyelash curler" (direct quote). I find this one pretty interesting, because I am a die hard Shu Uemura eyelash curler fan (I have been using this since high school!). I can't bash the Revlon one because I have never used it, but I wonder if it would work for my Asian eyes. I find that Shu Uemura works great on Asian eyes.

4. Essie nail polish - Well "Pouf Daddy" in particular. Olivia prefers classic red shades that are cheery and don't fade. I like reds too because I find them eternally classic, you can never go wrong with red.

5. L'oreal Professional Serie Expert Liss Ultime Nuit - Apparently Olivia conditions her hair a lot and uses this after a shower. This product is a polymer-packed leave in treatment to lock in moisture. (Its the bottle on the far right.)

6. Guerlain Lipstick - Olivia prefers to have a pink or nude Guerlain lipstick. I have never tried this brand, but then again I am not much of a lipstick girl, only for going out and special occasions.

Its the Little Things

Yes all the little things about your outfit can really make a difference. For the most part I tend to dress pretty simple with some detail that will stand out. That way I can avoid buying things that are super trendy and focus on clothing items I can wear for several seasons. Here are some little details I have been recently sporting.

This is the color I am currently wearing. Its this perfect pinkish brown color I like. It really reminds me of my fave lip liner. I originally purchased this to fill my current crave for mannequin hands, buts its a little darker than that. But that's OK because I really like this color on me. It is OPI "Barefoot in Barcelona".

I am currently in love with this panther ring I recently purchased from Forever 21. Its silver with a bunch of rhinestones all around. I think the edgy ring adds a little bit of toughness to the plain black and white shirt and jeans I was wearing on casual Friday at work.

Here I am wearing the Ann Taylor Loft waterfall tee that I got at a great discount during the holiday season. It ended up only costing me about $8 for the shirt. It was so cute I had to buy it in a bright pink as well. I love the ruffles on the shirt. I can never have too many ruffles :) Here I paired it with black Express slacks, light pink Forever 21 cardigan, and a black skinny Target belt.

I also wanted to take a moment to mention these two lovely ladies who gave me an award on their blog. Its this little acknowledgements that make my day and make me want to keep blogging.

Snap Snap Snap

I've been doing some shoots lately trying to improve my skills. And since my computer got updated I decided to get a nice new monitor that makes editing soooo much easier. I had like a small I don't know 15 inch monitor? Small I know but I rarely used the PC for anything. Now that I have been shooting more that ancient monitor was not cutting it.

I just wanted to show you a few photos from some recent shoots. I am still learning how to do everything, but I think I have improved a bunch!

I've been throwing the idea around in my head to do an anniversary shoot with my wedding photographer since our one year anniversary is coming up. While I think it would be fun to do, it means I would have to think fast of what kind of mood/feel I want the shoot to be. Decisions, decisions.

Anyway I am 10 posts away from 100 posts. I know it has taken me a long time, but I am thinking about doing a giveaway for it, so stay tuned!

Best Face Foward

I've been meaning to write up this post for some time now, but just never got the chance. Well back in November I posted that I purchased a Clarisonic Mia and hoped that it would give me this awesome skin. Part of the reason it took me so long to write this post is that I didn't get the results I wanted right away. It didn't make my skin worse when I started using it, but it didn't make my acne any better.

Well I stuck with it and after using it for about 2 months things started to change. I noticed less blackheads and white heads, less clogged pores, and less breakouts. I am still having a few pimples and clogged pores pop up here and there, but I am still trying to figure out the best routine for my skin. One of the immediate results of the Clarisonic is your super soft skin. I noticed that after my first use.

Right now I am using my Clarisonic with my Murad acne face wash. I am just trying to finish this face wash up and start using a new face wash I purchased, Neaclear Liquid Oxygen Acne Wash with Saliclyic Acid. I used the Neaclear was a few times already and I love how clean it makes my face feel without being over drying, which the Murad one can be for me at times. I am really trying to focus on using "simpler" products for my skin because I think I have overdone it in the past.

I have also been using the Oil Cleansing Method (also known as OCM). I always thought that I had extremely oily skin, but in reality it was just that my skin was overproducing all the oil I was constantly stripping from my face. In the beginning the thought of lathering my face with oil made me cringe. But I thought what the heck I might as well try it. Well, I am soooo glad I did. This method really helps unclog pores and it makes your skin super soft. I am using a mix of Castor Oil and Jojoba oil right now and I think I will stick to this combo.

The combination of these two in my beauty routine has really helped clear my skin up. I think with a few more tweaks to the routine I will have clear skin in no time.

You didn't know I had an agent did ya? Well I do and every one of you should too. You don't have to be some superstar athlete to need an agent, because I am definitely not one. OK the truth is my husband in my agent. Yes I realize that sounds completely cheesy, but hear me out.

All of us need an agent to help us realize what we are capable of. I will tell you from my own experience that sometimes I am timid when it comes to change. Not nervous because I don't want the change, but nervous because I might fail. My hubs (from here on out will be referred to as "agent" haha) helps me with this all the time. While I can't tell you the exact situation at this time, I will say that my agent made me realize that I am good enough, that I could do this, and that I shouldn't be nervous because I don't have anything to lose.

We need an agent to push us to our fullest potential and help us become who we want to be. Someone who believes in us when we aren't sure ourselves, someone who tells us that when its bad its going to get better, and someone who negotiates our contracts. Your agent can be anyone, your parents, siblings, boyfriend, husband, best friend. As long as that person helps you achieve what you want to achieve in life, I say you have yourself an agent.

...for being absent. My computer was off to get updated (which is running much faster these days) and I have had a few things going on that have kept me busy. 2010 already seems to be an interesting year for me.

I wanted to show you all an fairly simple outfit I wore out to dinner with friends one night.

Tee and Skirt: Forever 21, Necklace NY&Co., Tights: H&M

This past month I have realized that my "go to" outfits seem to be a skirt with a long sleeve tee and a statement necklace (and if its cold I will add on a cardigan). I don't know what it is but I keep coming back to this type of outfit. Even when it rains, I substitute my heels for some boots because I don't like wearing pants and getting them wet.

I picked up this fun nail polish from Ulta last week when I went on a mini shopping spree. It is from Essie's spring line called Lilacism, a fun pastel-y purple.

The real color is little more "purple-y" than the picture. I am really feeling pastel colors and nude "mannequin nails" this spring.

Just a Girl

One of my favorite magazines to read is Instyle. I was looking through the December issue and it featured so many goodies, great new pieces and some great ideas for party hair. What really caught my attention was the Beauty Talk with Gwen Stefani.

When I think of Gwen, two things come to mind: platinum blonde hair and bright red lips. While I will never try to duplicate Gwen's hair color, I have tried to get those famous red lips. I was glad to see that she shared some of her favorite beauty must haves, including her red lipstick.

Gwen also uses MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. I used to use this in college but then felt that it was making my skin oily. Well now that I realized that I was putting way to much on my skin (as far as cleansers and toner), I think I am going to try Studio Fix again soon. Gwen thinks that it still gives her a natural look.

So there are lots of ladies who are still on the search for a great mascara. What works for one girl might not work for another, but I am so glad I found this mascara a few months ago. It really adds volume to my lashes and its inexpensive. Gwen said her sister-in-law introduced her to this and it makes her lashes really thick and full.

I am sure that Gwen's hair needs some serious deep conditioning because she dyes it so much. But I was really surprised when she said that she uses Pantene Restoratives Time Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner, apparently her hairdresser gave it to her. Lots of people don't like to use drugstore shampoo brands because they feel that it doesn't do anything for your hair. I wonder if this particular shampoo and conditioner is an exception.

Sorry for the lack of posts ladies, but I have been under the weather. Its been freezing cold (to me at least) in Texas and I caught this horrible cough. Two bottles of nasty cough medicine later and I am almost 100% better.

So today was a big day for lots of Houstonians, the lineup for the Houston Rodeo was released!!! OK I know many of you probably don't care for country music or seeing kids chase after some calves, but its just something hubs and I look forward to every year. The Rodeo lasts about the whole month of March and kicks off the the BBQ cookoff. Texans don't play when it comes to BBQ so they throw a big party for the cookoff to start things off right. The rodeo season is then followed by a month of awesome concerts! There is also the carnival that is fun for kids and "older kids", but if you don't care for the games you have to have the food.

Ever try fried oreos? How about a fried snicker? I know you guys are probably reading this in disgust, but seriously you need to try some fried oreos.

Rodeo time is also the time you see people dusting their cowboy boots. There was a time when cowboy boots were the trend and everybody was trying to get their hands on a pair, but here in Texas they are always fashionable :).

I Wanted to Love You

That is exactly how I felt about the Rodarte for Target line. I fell in love with a few pieces when I saw the pictures online so I bought 2 dresses not too long ago, but then after trying them on, I wasn't impressed. I purchased these the week before Christmas and the store was so hectic I decided to just purchase them and try them on at home.

I REALLY wanted to love this dress because it had bows and lace, but it really did nothing for my body type. Now I am not well endowed in the chest area, but it made me look really flat chested.

Now this next one worked better for me. I think it looks really cute with the lace pattern and the chiffon edging, but I really wish it were an actual lace overlay instead of just a pattern on the polyester fabric.

I don't think I will be keeping the lace patterned dress because I just don't feel that the material is worth the price.

What did you think about the Rodarte for Target line? Did you like and purchase any items? Or did you feel like me that it was all hype with nothing much to back it up?

I was tagged by Veronika to share 7 quirky facts about myself with all of you. I'll try not to share anything that will make you think that I am completely out of my mind :)

1. I have lived in Houston all my life, a true Texan :) I wanted to move to Austin and go to UT, but I think my mom knew that it was the #1 party school at the time and made me stay back. I am sure my life would be completely different now if I went. I don't know if I would have ever met my hubs if I went to Austin.

2. I always carry a cardigan with me because I get cold pretty easily. Unless its in the middle of a heat wave in Texas, you will find the AC vents in the car pointing away from me. And my nose starts running when I get cold. I think I am allergic to the cold, is that even possible?

3. I listen to wide variety of music. You will find Zach Brown Band, Jay-Z, Michael Buble, Joshua Radin, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and random remakes.

4. I am awesome guitar and drum player in Rockband. Yes I love playing all the musical games like Guitar Hero, Rockband, and even Singstar.

5. I love drinking Lemonade and Ice Tea together. If you have never tried it please do! Just mix half and half, it is so good. And of course being from the south I love me some sweet tea.

6. I love the feeling of my teeth right after they are brushed. I don't know why, its just so nice and clean. I am so glad that I bought a Sonicare toothbrush because I noticed a huge difference after the first use.

7. When I eat I like to save the best for last. Some of my friends disagree with my method and tell me that I should it the best first because what if I get too full to eat the best? Well I can tell when I am getting full so I stop and eat the best :)

Christmas and After Christmas Goodies

I love Christmas time because it means lots of family time and lots of eating, but I am kind of glad they are over because I need to start watching what I eat again and all these sales are not good for my wallet. Its been pretty cold here in Texas, well at least for me, and most of my winter outfits are pretty "blah". I'm sure you have noticed the lack of outfit posts.

Anyway I didn't take a picture of my Christmas outfit for a post so I had to crop myself out of a larger pic for you guys to see. Yes, I am aware that is ghetto.

Everything is from Forever 21 except for the tights from H&M.

I am in love with the necklace I am wearing. It is such a gorgeous statement necklace and can really spice up a rather plain outfit.

One of my little cousins got me these cute house slippers from Target. Apparently they are a look-a-like of a Juicy Couture pair. As long as they are cute and keep my feet warm I am happy :)

I also got some jewelry and a dress from my sister, a super cute apron from a good friend, and a neck warmer thing from another good friend.

I didn't really find anything with the after Christmas sales except some work shoes and a pair of booties. I never really liked the bootie trend, but the more I see it the more I like it. I'll post about them when I receive them. I also scored this super cute blazer from Ann Taylor Loft. They were having an additional 25% off. I tried to look for a picture on their website, but couldn't find one.

I love the ruffle detailing around the collar and how it flairs out a little at the bottom.

Empire State of Mind

I was doing my usual rounds catching up on blogs when I saw that With Love... had a trailer for 'Sex and the City 2"! I loved the series and the first movie. I didn't even realize there was already a trailer out for it. And you know I have to show it to you ladies.

The moment I heard 'Empire State of Mind' playing at the beginning of the trailer, I knew it was going to be good. The trailer really didn't give anything away (although I wish it did). I can't wait to see what happens in this movie. I've already marked my calendar for the premier and I might, just might try to catch the midnight showing.

The only thing that gives the fashion the show has a run for its money is Carrie's closet. Yes, I am in love with her closet. Here was the closet in her apartment. Nothing crazy fantastic, but heck much better than mine!

And then there was the gorgeous white closet that housed those beautiful blue Manolos.

One day......my closet will look this amazing.

Its that time again for us ladies to stock up on any undergarments we need. I hate fighting the madness that is always in the store and I can't ever find anything decent in my size. I much rather shop the sale online. I haven't ever ordered any clothes from there, but these dresses look really cute and the price is even better.

Silk bandage sweater dress for $79.

And of course I couldn't forget about the shoes, I mean boots (because there were mainly boots on sale). If I didn't have such a hard time finding boots that fit my calves, I would have bought any one of these boots.

The Devon Convertible Boot for $129. The only thing I dislike about buying items online is when they show you how some items are convertible (even dresses), when you try it for yourself at home it never turns out the same.

Handbag Heaven

I love handbags that have an extra across the body strap because I use it so often, especially while shopping. I was browsing People.com the other day and came across this picture of Reese Witherspoon and fell in love with her clutch.

It is a Rebecca Minkoff Morning After clutch and I love it to pieces! I went to the Rebecca Minkoff website and it looks like it comes in black or purple with gold hardware.

I also love handbags with hardware (the clutch above scored double points). So when I saw this bag earlier on in the year I fell in love with it, but not the price. Its the Alexander Wang Coco Mini Duffel.

I tend to purchase black handbags 95% of the time because I can wear them with almost anything. And I feel that if I am going to spend a pretty penny on a handbag I better be able to wear it almost everyday. I do have a gray purse that I got as a bday present from a good friend and that goes with pretty much everything too. But you won't see me buying an expensive handbag in pink, green, or purple just because I would find it too hard to wear it on a daily basis.

Something Blue

OK just a quick post about something I just found in case I have any brides reading my blog. When I was planning the wedding I wanted blue shoes as my something blue, but I needed shoes that weren't so tall because I didn't want to be taller than my hubs. Well my search ended because all the shoes that were less than 2 inches tall in blue looked like something an elderly lady would wear.

Well I am sure if you haven't been living under a rock you have seen the Something Blue Manolo Blahnik's that were featured in the 'Sex and the City" movie. I think in the movie Carrie says they are only $500, but I think after the movie the price went up to $945 (and that was the moment you heard brides' hearts breaking all across the world). This may be old news to some ladies, but I thought I would share anyway.

Looks pretty good to me! And the price of $159 sounds much better than $945. However, I am sure that the Manolos are much more comfortable than these, but I am wondering if it would be manageable after you crowd the shoe with all the foot pads.

Anyway, while I was browsing I also found some super cute shoes that a bride (or anyone for that matter) would love.

Its been a week since I have been back from my vacation to Hawaii and I still think I have not adjusted to the change. While I was there, I got a few texts that I was missing all the snow in Houston and of course I had to text back with a picture of me laying out on the beach :) Cruel, I know.

I had a fabulous time on the Big Island and Oahu. There is so much I wasn't able to do and hope to visit Oahu and another island in a few more years. The Big Island was phenomenal with star gazing on Mauna Kea and visiting the volcanoes and walking through a lava tube. I haven't been able to go through all of my images yet, but most of them have family/friends in them so I probably won't be posting those. But here are some general photos I took.

This whole trip I was so busy behind the camera that I almost forgot to get a picture of hubs and I. This was taken before the sunset picture above. I just realized I look like I'm pregnant in this picture (which by the way I am totally not). I guess its just the way the dress is cut and the angle of the picture. Oh well.

This was the first trip my dad has taken with hubs and I. He had such a great time (because he didn't have to do anything, we just told him what time to wake up haha) he wants us to go to Europe next year with him and his siblings. I wouldn't mind going to Europe again, but I REALLY wanted to go to Asia.

Anyone have any interesting vacation plans in the near future? Do you vacation with your parents? If so, how does that work out for you?

Early Christmas

Yup, it isn't even December yet and I got my Christmas present from hubs. We normally don't do super big gifts for Christmas or any occasion really, but he knew I've had my eye on a pretty lens for my camera for a long time. And because I am a person that takes a long time to make big purchases, he surprised me by being sneaky and asking my friends which one I wanted and made the purchase. He had to give it to me over the weekend because I was expecting to borrow my friend's lens for our trip but she really needed it for work but only told me I could borrow hers to buy time for my lens from hubs to come in. :) I have great friends and a great hubs. :) I will get to play with my new toy in Hawaii on Wednesday, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L.

I have a really big family and sometimes its really hard to keep up with who likes what. So every year at Thanksgiving my sister and I make it a point to find out what all the kiddos like this year so we can make Christmas shopping a little easier. You know the kiddos are getting older when they no longer are asking for toys but rather clothes and shoes. And I have no problem with shopping for clothes, even if they are for kids.

One of my nieces is just learning to read so she asked for books. I had a coupon for Barnes and Nobles so I decided to do some early shopping. I bought her these beginner reader Fancy Nancy books that I think she will like.

And as I browsed some more I came across one of my favorite books from when I was younger and couldn't help but pick it up for her. I know she can't read this yet, but I am sure her mom will read it to her and with in due time she will be able to read it on her own.

I have to say that I love Tim Gunn and when I found out he was getting his own fashion help show a few seasons ago I was thrilled. I just about died laughing when I heard that he said "Ladies, if its ugly....its ugly!". Tim's honesty is sometimes crazy funny. If any of you haven't seen his show, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, he helps teach women how to shop and gives them a list of the 10 essential items they need in their closet.

I think this is a great starting point for anyone trying to revamp their wardrobe. Stick to classic pieces that you can wear any time, even in 5 years. One other thing that is mentioned on the list that he heavily emphasises is the right undergarments. Wearing the right size bra can really make a difference with your appearance and confidence.

Here are 4 of my classic pieces. My shoes are not on Tim's list, but a pair of classic black pumps should be.

Since I am on the subject of classics, this is one of my favorite red nail polishes that can be worn at anytime. Its OPI's "Bastille My Heart", which I think was part of the "Collection de France". After I took this picture I realized I forgot to clean up the mistakes. There goes my laziness again, oh well.

In 12 days I will be saying Aloha, drinking mai tais, and getting lei-ed. Yes ladies I am going vacationing in Hawaii! I am extremely excited because I have never been and I desperately need this vacation. Our last vacation was in June and that was before everything got crazy at work.

We will be spending a few days on the Big Island and a few days on Oahu. I wish we had more time to explore the other islands, but its OK, I'll take what I can get. We have alot of stuff we plan to do there like going to the Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, black sand beach, North Shore on Oahu, Dole Plantation, Diamond Head, and Pearl Harbor.

I am a little sad that we will be there before the whale watching season though. Hubs said not to worry, if I wanted to see a whale he would take me to San Antonio. Hahaha to see Shamu.

We had our departmental Thanksgiving lunch yesterday at work. The AVP came by and asked our newest employee if she was liking working at the company. I quietly said to my other coworker "No", jokingly of course. We both started laughing hysterically, we even let my boss in on what was said and she couldn't stop laughing either.

This got me thinking about the common questions we always ask and we always expect to hear "yes, great" or "I'm just fine thank you" out of habit. So what happens when someone throws you the answer you are not expecting to hear? Do we actually even really want to know? Do they even want us to know?

I was chatting with my friend who told me she had no idea a friend of hers was going through a life changing ordeal. I told my friend that her friend probably didn't want anyone to know. People sometimes hide their feelings or what they are going through because they don't want to be judged or have their actions questioned. Sometimes people pretend to be happy when they are not because they don't want to be alone.

...because I have been on a spending spree. I haven't gone shopping in forever, and when that happens I feel like I want to buy everything when I get a chance. Last night I went to Sephora to use my 20% off coupon on some products. I've been wanting to try out the Clarisonic for some time now because my skin isn't in the best shape. It promises to make your pores smaller (and what girl wouldn't want that) with a 30 day money back guarantee.

I got the Clarisonic Mia in Pink and was able to use it for the first time last night. Even though the instructions said I should charge it for 24 hours before the first use, I couldn't wait. I used the cleanser that came with the Mia and my skin felt super smooth afterwards and still feels pretty nice today.

I was really skeptical about buying this and thought about just using a manual brush because well, it would be so much cheaper. But after doing a little research and seeing the Clarisonic in person I had to get it. The Mia brushes 300 times per second and I am sure I could not do that manually. The key to getting rid of blackheads is to get deep in the pores and clean out the dirt and there is no way you can do that with traditional cleansing methods (your hands and a cleanser).

It is made by the same people as the famous Sonicare toothbrush (which I got one for hubs and I not too long ago). I bought a cheapo electric toothbrush once thinking that it would do the job, but the first time I used a Sonicare toothbrush my teeth never felt so clean. So, knowing what the Sonicare toothbrush has done for my teeth, I needed to see what the Clarisonic could do for my skin. I hope to give you guys a better review in a week or so rather than just my reasoning to buy it (not like I really needed one anyway :P).

I also purchased this palette from Sephora's Pure line.

The colors came out so rich unlike some other palettes that look great in the packaging but doesn't have much pigmentation. I don't know how many palettes I have I just keep buying more (sad, I know). Sephora's Pure line is made up of 95% natural ingredients and does not contain all those ingredients I can't pronounce.

I swatched the colors in store and I think my favorite is going to be the middle on the bottom, a shimmering mauve color. The blush looks crazy bright in the picture, but when I put it on its just a touch of bright pink. I can't wait to try this palette out.

Anyone else purchased anything at the VIB Sephora Event last night? I was hoping they would give away some freebies, but it wasn't even that kind of "event", all they had were some balloons on the doors.

Green with Envy

I mentioned a few posts ago about the new nail color Twilight that I love. Well, the day I bought Twilight I also bought Green with Envy (part of Ulta's Professional line new fall colors). The color is like an emerald green that I couldn't seem to capture very well with my old (circa 2004) point and shoot, which captured Twilight easily. I took so many pictures and just couldn't get a good one, and I was too lazy to pull out my big Canon. I hope you can see the pretty green in this craptastic photo :P

Speaking of being envious, I am super jealous of my friend who has lost probably about 10 lbs. in 2.5 weeks. We both have been watching what we eat, counting calories, and some physical activity here and there and well...I only lost about 1/3 of what she lost. I haven't been super strict on what I eat and allow myself a little bit of my cravings (all these left over Halloween candy in the office can't be good).

At this rate I have a long way to go to reach my goal. I don't know how I can reach it when I randomly had a craving for a powdered donut. A POWDERED DONUT....I NEVER eat those and one day driving home from work, I wanted one. I was so tempted to pull over at the gas station and have one, but I came to my senses. The oatmeal I am eating as I type this just doesn't compare to a Panera dutch apple bagel with cream cheese alllll over it!!!

I know losing weight is all about a lifestyle change, I get it, but sometimes its just difficult to get out of the routine you have been used to. As much as I hate to run, I think I need to give it another try, maybe invest in some real running shoes instead of the ones I just buy from the mall. Hubs just bought himself a pair of running shoes that were custom fitted to his feet. Apparently he runs a little weird, so they cushioned his shoes to help him out and not put pressure on his back.

Anyone else hate running? Or am I the only one? I hated running in school too and always dreaded when we had to do those fitness tests in elementary school when the mile run came up.

We have seen lots of strong shoulder blazers from designers for their fall collections. I don't have any of those, but I desperately want a strong shoulder dress. French Connection has several right now that I am loving. I love how structured these pieces are and how clean the lines are.

Then ASOS has these fun dresses with embellishments on the shoulder to add some drama.

The Compromise

Everyone says the hardest thing about being in a relationship is the compromise, having to stray from exactly what you want to give your partner a little bit of what they want. We have had our fair share of compromises in the almost 7 years we have been together, but there is one thing I have not given in on. I have my reasons and he has his and we both feel that each of our reasons are good ones for wanting or not wanting to give in, so for now its been pushed to the side.

It is just this one thing that I have a hard time compromising because its not like "what's for dinner?" or "who is taking out the trash?", its personal. We have talked about different options and well we just haven't come up with one that works for both of us. Anyone ever had something they couldn't come to a compromise about? Would you just give in because you don't want to create an argument?

On a lighter note, I never posted this outfit I wore to a friend's wedding ceremony. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of what I wore to the reception because we were running late and it was a complete thunderstorm that evening.

Twilight Glow

After two weeks of searching for Twilight, the new Ulta Professional Nail line color, I found it this past weekend thanks to Laurel from A Good Build. There were only 2 bottles of this left when I got there and I snatched up one along with Green with Envy, an emerald green.

Twilight actually looks very similar to OPI's Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees from the new Suede Collection. Twilight was actually on sale for $4.99 when I got it, but I think that deal is over now.

What do you think of the color? I actually REALLY like it. But I may be biased because I have been really into gray lately.

I was also able to pick up Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask at Ulta as well. I went to 2 Walgreen's and 1 CVS on Friday looking for this mask and couldn't find it. I have read great reviews on this mask and how it helps with acne and blackheads. I have only used it once so far and I will say that it left my face super soft and smooth. I will give a review of it after a few more uses.

I normally don't buy drugstore cosmetics. I remember the high school days when the foundation you bought rarely matched your face and the eye shadow never was as bold as it appeared in the packaging. Well, after reading some great reviews online of some products, I decided to give it a try.

First I bought L'oreal True Match liquid foundation. Let me start by saying I normally do not wear liquid foundation because it always felt too thick to me. True Match is not thick and is actually pretty light. There is a little "chart" that is on the display that helps you choose which color will best work for you. I think the "chart" got my color spot on. It lasted me all day and did not rub off after 6 hours. I have combination skin and usually get slightly oily after about 5 hours around my t-zone. The foundation didn't make me more oily at all which is one thing I was afraid of. I would highly suggest anyone looking for a good inexpensive foundation to try L'oreal True Match, I think you will be nicely surprised.

Sorry no pics of the foundation because I could never post pictures of my face without any makeup because right now its not in the best shape it has been. Maybe once my skin clears up a little I will.

Winter Kate & Jimmy Choo

I love Nicole Richie's style, she is always so effortlessly chic. I am so glad that she has changed her life around from those early partying days of hers. I love how much of a family woman she has become, but also has time for herself and her career. We all know that she created the accessories line House of Harlow 1960 and a maternity line named Nicole.

Nicole just announced that she has launched a contemporary women's line named Winter Kate (her daughter Harlow's middle names). We can expect her Bohemian style to be reflected in her designs that will be sold at stores such as Neiman Marcus starting February. I could only find one image from the line, but will post more if I come across them.

...eat your salad, no dessert!

I've been kind of avoiding this for some time now. I mean who wants to admit that they gained quite some weight? Before the wedding I started eating better and was moderately active. Then about a month before the wedding the stress started to kick in and I just didn't want to eat. I didn't realize how much weight I had lost until my final fitting and the seamstress had to take my dress in 2 inches. I knew it wouldn't last long.

Well, here we are about 8 months after the wedding and I am ready to admit that I HAVE GAINED IT BACK (and possibly a few extra)! *cringes* I feel that if I write it down, I am more inclined to do something about it. While I am not at the heaviest I've ever been, I don't want to get back to that because at that time I think most of my meals were fast food. I wish there was a miracle fast way to do this and keep it off. I see all the commercials for different diet pills, cleanses, and even know people who take prescription drugs to suppress their appetite. While those might give me quick results, the minute you stop them the pounds start packing back on.

In my attempt to eat healthier and be more active I signed up on thedailyplate.com with a friend. Dailyplate is a free resource that helps you keep track of the calories you consume and the calories you burn with your daily activities. It also helps you figure out how many calories you CAN consume to promote weight loss with your level of normal activity. I just signed up last night so I don't know all the things you can do with the website, but if anyone uses it, got any pointers?

I find that it is hard to keep myself motivated. I go for about 2 weeks eating healthy and trying to stay active and then fall in a slump. Go for about a month in that slump, and start feeling motivated again.

I really like those argyle tights. Speaking of Forever 21, there was a ring on their website listed under New Arrivals that I have been desperately wanting (the expensive version). When I saw that Forever 21 finally made one, it was no longer for sale. I don't know if it sold out that fast or maybe they had to take it down for whatever reason. I am hoping to go to the store today to see if by any chance they have one at there. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have been dying to break out my tights for the fall and actually wore some yesterday. It was horrible because it was slightly chilly in the morning but then went up to the mid 80s in the afternoon. I just couldn't take it anymore and had to take them off. Stupid Texas weather!

The other day I previewed Michael Buble's newest CD "Crazy Love". I love his voice! There is one song on there that makes me melt "Hold On". I am a little biased, but "Crazy Love" is great too because it was our first dance song (the Thea Gilmore version).

Dark and Gloomy

So the weather here in Houston has been pretty dark and gloomy lately. I guess the time change next month also plays a role in the darkness. Anyway, I'm normally a light pink nail polish wearing girl, but lately I've been wearing dark colors again. I was looking through my Ulta advertisement that came in the mail and LOVED the three new colors that they came out with for the fall.

To my disappointment, I went to 2 different Ulta locations last week to no avail. How can you advertise something new and not have it at 2 of your locations? There are only a hand full of location in Houston. So Ulta please hurry up and send all the locations your new Ulta Professional line fall colors because I want to buy all three. Its hard to see the colors online, but here is one that I plan to buy whenever I can get my hands on it. Twilight:

My nails will start chipping probably 2 days after I get them done, so I stopped getting them done at a salon and just do it at home. But lately I have noticed that they don't start to chip as early. I wonder if its because some of the colors at the nail shop look like they have been watered down or they are just old colors. Anyone has have that problem?

I always tie "happenings" with season change. When I was younger I always knew it was the summer when the neighborhood pool opened. These days, I consider it fall when Starbucks brings back the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Sad I know, but I love those things! If you haven't tried a Pumpkin Spice Frappe, those are good too.

Anyway, one thing I love to wear in the fall are vests. They add an extra layer of warmth and add a little spunk to a rather simple outfit. I mainly wear my vests with jeans and a plain tee, but if you are adventurous with your style pair them with a dress for a different spin on things.

Here are two styles I am currently loving:

The above vest is the Rachel Comey Traveler's Vest. I love the look, but not the tag of $679. I did find a similar option that is much more budget friendly.

The "cheaper" option is by BB Dakota and is going for only $60.

This Alexander Wang Motorcycle vest is HOT, but the tag of over $1,200 is not.

This one is from Guess which isn't as long as the Wang one, but has a similar vibe to it. There is also one from Express that is only $68, but their website has been down for the past couple of days.

If I didn't put myself on a spending freeze I would have bought the BB Dakota vest already. I actualy was THIS close to buying it in August, but was saving up to "feed" my expensive hobby (which is the reason I am on a spending freeze).

Anyone else on a spending freeze? How are you dealing with it? If I keep myself busy on the weekends I don't really get a chance to go to the mall, so I am good. Gosh, I sound like I have a problem huh? :)

Chopitty Chop

I always do this. I let my hair grow and grow, each time longer than before. Then one day I decide I want to chop it all off. I grew my hair out for my wedding (that was in February) and decided that it was too long for my fine hair. I don't know if its fine hair in general, or just mine, but the long hair would just sit flat on my head even if I put mousse in and blew dry my hair.

So one day I decided, enough, I wanted volume! I went in and chopped off a good 8 inches of hair, which eventually made its way to a good cause. I'm loving how much more volume my hair gets (and sometimes it can be a little too much haha). But then there are days like today when I am just not "feeling" it. I am contemplating on going to get a slightly different cut to take out some of the layers.

One thing I don't like about getting my hair cut is the way they style it afterwards. They always want to flat iron my hair. I always have to ask them to just blow dry because my hair is already fine and straight, I don't need an iron to do it for me. Anyone else not like the way people style your hair after getting it cut?

How's married life?

I think its kind of funny that I am still getting this question asked every other week. Our 6 month wedding anniversary just passed and we celebrated by having a nice steak dinner. Yes, both of us LOVE steak. Anyway, its not that we have been married for 6 months, its that we have been together for almost 7 years and living together for about 4 of those years. So really it felt like we were married even before we had the wedding.

Some of our friends always tell us how they think we are so great together and that our relationship is something that they hope to find in their future. I always tell them that we do have a good relationship, but it is not perfect and there are plenty things we have to work on. Our personalities are pretty different and it takes some effort to understand how one of us may be feeling. For example, growing up my family was very affectionate and in my teen years I became a hopeless romantic. Hubs grew up an only child with his father working most of the day and didn't get the same affection I did. He had to learn to show his affection towards me and I had to understand that affection isn't something he is used to.

But I must admit after the wedding I think Hubs has been trying even more. I am loving the suprise lunch dates, back rubs without asking, and encouraging me to do what I love. So now I am stuck trying to think of a nice suprise for Hubs to show him appreciation for all that he has done.

Anyone have any good suggestions related to golf? He already plays golf fairly often so I don't want to suprise him with a round of golf, maybe some golf accessories?

I had a pretty crazy and action packed weekend in which I am still trying to catch up on my sleep. In the midst of the running around, partying, laughing, and just being silly I lost my eyeliner. I know, no big deal but eyeliner is one of the few things I feel that I must wear everyday along with filling in my eyebrows.

I have been using Makeup Forever's Aqua Eyes liner for the past year or so. It really has some great staying power, but the only thing I didn't like is that when I would sharpen it, it didn't have a nice fine point. Not sure if it the sharpener I use or if the liner is just that way. If you don't care about having a fine point this eyeliner works great.

So I have been going a few days without eyeliner because I haven't decided what I wanted to try next. This will be my everyday liner so I prefer a pencil because it is easier to apply. I love Smashbox creme liner for weekends, but that isn't so easy to apply in a moving car. I was just browsing Sephora's website and saw this:

I am currently using the Buxom Mascara and loving it. This eyeliner supposedly is self sharpening. Hmm who knows.

Anyone have good suggestions for a pencil eyeliner? It can be drugstore brand or something from Sephora. I'm just looking for something that is a bang for the buck and under $20.

When it comes to makeup, I like to make it as easy as possible. Most of the time my makeup is done in the car so the application needs to be pretty easy. I also carry my makeup around with me, so the less I have to carry around the better.

Lately I have been using Smashbox's O-Glow. It comes in this easy little tube and is applied with your fingers. The "gel" is clear as you squeeze it out, but gradually turns into a nice sheer pinkish color that matches your skin tone. I'm really loving it. They also have a formulation for bronzer and lipgloss, but this is the only one I have tried.

Life has been pretty busy still, I haven't updated my blog nor have I had the chance to look at other blogs I love. This past week I saw my husband maybe a total of 10 hours during the weekdays, which is very rare for us. We are both trying to conquer our dreams, or at least our dreams for right now. I love how we are both able to be our own person, do our own things, and still be the couple that loves being together.

We were hanging out with my family yesterday when my cousin said that he recently read a survey that asked women "at what age were you the happiest?" He said the majority replied with age 28. I sat there and thought about this, why 28? What is happening for everyone at that age that makes it the happiest? If 28 is the magic number, then I can't wait to see what life has in store for me because right now I feel like I am having the time of my life.

I am slowing gaining the confidence and dipping my toes in the water, not quite ready to dive in head first. One day I will be.

Sorry ladies! Seriously, life has been pretty busy lately, but its been as fun as ever. Work has been kicking me in the behind and month end is coming up which means I will be busy again. I just dream of the days where I am busting my butt for my own company instead of "The Man". I promise I will make it up to you.

One thing I get asked about every now and then is about my eyebrows. They are nothing fancy, but I guess its because when I get them done they look really good and are pretty even. I will admit that back in middle/high school I had the super thin eyebrows, but I am glad I grew out of that phase during my senior year. My senior year in high school I discovered eyebrow threading.

What is eyebrow threading? They use thread to pull out each hair, kind of like tweezing, but much faster. It is a very good method to use especially if you are growing your eyebrows out. I have never gotten my eyebrows waxed so I can't compare it to that, but I know the precision is much better when threading. Threading does hurt a little when you first do it, but it doesn't take long for you to get used to it. After about 9 years of doing this, I think it feels kind of good? It took me some time to find "my" eyebrow lady, but I will not go to anyone else. I did have someone make them super thin again and it took me months to grow them out.

I like my eyebrows to be on the thicker side because of the size of my face. I also always fill them in with an eyebrow pencil or eyeshadow. I think it makes a huge difference when you do fill in your eyebrows because it really frames your face.

Swamped

Last week was very busy for me. My coworker was out of town so I was doing double the work and after 5 we had a few networking meetings and a grand opening to attend. Not to mention work decides to block photobucket and tinypic so I can't view many people's pictures or post my own.

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago to a friends birthday dinner and then out for drinks. You may remember this skirt because I posted it awhile back wanting to purchase it in green. When I went to my local UO they only had it in black and yellow.

I haven't been very motivated lately. Maybe its because I've fallen into the same old routine with work and coming home. Life is too short to go from day to day doing the same un-inspiring things. So at 8:30 AM this morning, feeling a mix of "un-inspiredness" and a case of the Monday blues, my mind ran across all these nifty things I would like to do with my life.

I am really glad I got a chance to hang out with a friend this weekend and follow her on her job. It was a chance for me to become inspired. I have alot to learn and the only way to learn is through trial and error. I wish I was confident enough to seek out a couple to take pictures of because right now my only volunteers are kids and teenagers. And while I like to photograph them, there are some things you just can't do with them..

People say when girls are little they dream about there wedding day. I never once dreamed about the dress I would wear, the flowers, the cake, none of it when I was young. What I did dream about was the man that would love me whole-heartedly (is that a word?). When I was about 15 years old I realized the kind of love that I hoped to find.

My grandmother had just passed away after a long fight with cancer. It crushed my grandfather's heart, but he was strong for the family. He arranged everything for her funeral without a cry. When it came time to place a flower on her casket, he broke down. It was the first time many of us saw him cry. He visited her grave so often that he had a special chair and umbrella that was stashed away in his car. This is what I know as love.

Love sets your heart on fire.

Growing Old

Warning this could be considered a "Debbie Downer" post, but its just the way I feel.

Last night in bed Hubs and I were talking about something and I told him he was going to give me a heart attack. He said that I am not supposed to be the first to go. And with those words the bubble popped, I was brought back to the real world.

Sometimes I feel like my life is a dream, not a dream as in everything is good all the time, more like the life I am living is all in my head. Or that I am really someone else looking in on another person's life. I rarely ever think about getting old, but when I do I am afraid of death. I am afraid that when that time comes I won't be ready, that I will leave too much behind. Maybe I feel this way because there are still so many other experiences I have yet to check off my bucket list, so many other feelings I have not felt, so many things I have not seen.

I sometimes wonder what happens to my soul after death, what it will actually feel like to die.

Am I alone on fearing death?

Lounging Around

As excited as I am that tomorrow is the start of a long weekend for me, I am sad that Hubs will probably work part of the day. So tomorrow I am going to lounge around at the house, try to see if the spa can fit me in for a massage (one that I desperately need), and possibly take some more pictures. I have only ever gotten a Swedish massage and am contemplating a deep tissue because the Swedish did nothing for me. I am thinking about asking them to do a lighter deep tissue? Is there such a thing? If you have ever had a deep tissue were you really sore the next day?

Here is something I wore when we were walking around in Playa del Carmen at night. Some of you may be wondering why some of my pictures I crop off my face and some I don't, well truth is I am not photogenic. I rather just cut my face off.

I am normally a skirt/dress girl, but I normally don't wear anything this short. It doesn't look that short in the front but in the back it is. I always have to be careful because "baby got back" as my hubs would say it. I always have a hard time finding pants that fit me in the hips and the waist.

The Perfect Gift

Sometimes I dread buying people gifts because I try really hard to find something that they would like. I am pretty good at remembering random things people say that they want, so sometimes I am lucky and can find just that. But other times I am left searching tons of stores for a month. I literally looked for a particular "just because" gift for 2 months. Something about giving a person a gift they love gives me so much joy.

But sometimes the greatest gift is a perfect moment, one that you makes you smile from ear to ear. My latest simple, but perfect moments:
-Laying on your shoulder on Sunday evening helping you with your Sudoku,
-You re-enacting my favorite scene from Superbad,
-When people in your network group say, "I've heard so much about his wife, so glad to finally meet you"

These are the moments that I hope I will remember when I am old and gray, especially the Superbad one. It makes me fall in love with you a little more each time.

Life gets busy and we sometimes forget to give ourselves a gift every now and then. It doesn't have to be something material, but remember to take time for yourself and do something you love. I took some time out to take photos of our little cousin, a little something for his mom, but also for me. Capturing his innocence.

The Short of it

These past few days have been extremely hot in the Texas heat with "feel like" temperatures of 100+. I normally take the bus to work and waiting for it in this heat is horrible. Not to mention I am normally in black slacks and a blouse. Currently at my stop there is no cover, but it does have a little bit of shade, which gets taken up by the older people who get out there early.

This heat is making my hair hideous. I have to admit, I am a sweat-er. I don't sweat profusely, but it is enough to make my bangs look hideous. I actually really like my bangs, but its not cutting it in this heat. So, I've been thinking about chopping my hair off. Rewind the clock to a December 2007, I had short hair.

I started growing my hair out not too long after this picture was taken because we got engaged and I wanted long hair for the wedding. Here are a few styles that I have been looking at, but some of them have bangs which is part of my problem now :(

I found these photos of a work outfit that I took months ago but never had the opportunity to post it. The dress code at work is business casual, but sometimes you wouldn't think so with some of the stuff people wear into work. Even though it is Jeans Friday, you shouldn't wear cropped jeans with tennis shoes to work. Anyway here I am in my office hoping no one comes by.

I tend to wear this skirt alot because it is a great basic black skirt. I have a few basic items that I really love and have worn them out. For example a pair of flip flops from Target. I know it is nothing special, but it was the perfect shade of pewter that went with everything! It wasn't one of those foam flip flops, but one of the nicer ones?

Now when I buy a basic item that I love, I buy two of them. I always thought why would I need two of the same thing? Well, now I see it is worth it to spend the extra money for another one if it is something you use all the time and can wear out. That's why I bought two of the burnout tees from Express that I wore in this post. One in white and the other in grey.

My Little Girl

People used to say that my father and I looked alike when I was younger. That may be true, but what means the most to me is that these days, people say that our personalities are alike. He has such a big heart and is so passionate about what he believes in, even if it means risking his life. He knows just the right words to say to make me feel better and when to not say anything and just give me a hug.

It was a bumpy road for our family, but as you grow older you realize that your parents are human and they make mistakes too. All that matters is that in the end they are still there for you and still love you even after the stupid mistakes you make. He always told me how proud he was of me when I won those math trophies, graduated high school early, graduated college with honors, got my first real job, moved from crappy job to crappy job to great job, and right before he walked me down the aisle.

Before our trip to Mexico, I was looking for a few dresses I could wear walking around town and possibly to dinner. I think dresses that can be worn casually and a little bit more dressed up at night are key for beachy vacations. I headed over to Old Navy to see if I could find some cute flip flops and was excited to see that they were having a sale on all dresses and skirts for $15.

I love wearing bright colors especially during the summer. So I picked up the cute green halter dress with a ruffle trim. For walking through town I wore it with simple beaded flip flops and for dinner I wore them with nude wedges. The best thing about the dress were the pockets which I forgot to show off.

Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso

After the wedding in Playa del Carmen, we decided to switch hotels to an all inclusive resort that was rated with 5 stars. Upon your arrival you get a cool towel and a fruity drink or champagne. I guess there are still lots of people afraid to go to Mexico and that's why the resort was only at 30% capacity when normally during this time of year they are at 80%.

After the bellboy shows you to your room, and you have about 5 minutes to look around your suite (all the rooms are suites), your butler comes to show you how to use the room. Yes, it is necessary because the room's A/C and lights run on a motion sensor. He also shows you the minibar which can be costumized to whatever you want, including VSOP courvoisier. And if you guys are serious drinkers, you can order the whole bottle to your room. I am not talking about just the mini bottles, but the bottles you see behind the bar.

Some of you may be wondering why I included pictures of the bathroom. Well, to me the bathroom is just as important as the sleeping area. I always judge a hotel by its bathroom as well. If I am not impressed with it, I will move on.

There was everything you could ever need at this resort. They had 4 a la carte restaurants, including a surf and turf, and 2 buffets. There are other Iberostar hotels on the grounds you can go it at as well, but the Grand Hotel is the top of the line so we just ate there. The food was good, but it was not to die for. Don't get me wrong it was 10 times better than any other all inclusive hotel I've been to, but I was not wowed. I was wowed that lobster was included without an extra charge.

Of course there are day time activities for you to partake in like beach volleyball (which I felt like throwing up after we played, probably from all the dos equis I already drank), spanish lessions, and salsa lessons. You also get 60 minutes of non motorized water sports like kayaking, sailing, and snorkling included. There are also night time shows that were pretty interesting, especially at the rock show with the guy in pleather pants and spray tanned abs but somehow still had a muffin top? hahaa.

I will end with this picture I took from the balcony of the surf and turf restaurant. Here you can see the infinity pool and Playa Paraiso. When I got home and uploaded the picture I realized this is the same picture they have on their website (found here). I may be biased, but my image shows the hotel off better! ...do as the Mexicans do. Dos Equis, Corona, and Modelo all week long! We spent time deep sea fishing, visited Xel-ha, attended a friend's wedding, kayaking, and hung out by the pool.

No, I'm not talking about the MTV show. My week long vacation has come to an end and here I am catching up on my 100+ work emails. The vacation was worth it though. I took lots of pictures that took forever to upload that I can share with you in the next few days. Right now I wanted to talk about bathing suits.

I bought this bathing suit from Forever 21 because I wanted something more playful than my basic black and basic white bikinis I love.

The bikini is cute, but really is only for looks. Please do not wear this to do any activities. I was wearing this in the pool and was close to a wardrobe malfunction. Suprisingly my bandeau top bikini held up while playing some beach volleyball. I was really scared of the girls popping out on that one.

I am getting ready to leave for Playa del Carmen. Hubs has left me to pack for the both of us again. I swear I have no idea what he would do without me sometimes. Just this week he told me he had no idea where his passport was or even if it had expired. I just went along with it, but really knew where it was. The last time we used our passports were in 2006 and he had no idea where it was for the past 3 years? Even after moving? MEN!

A Walk in the Park

We had some great weather this past week and since Hubs was working on a last minute job I decided to see if the girls (hubs younger cousins) wanted to go to the park and hang out. It was such a nice day I decided to take my camera with me to snap some shots.

I forgot how much fun I have taking pictures. All of my hobbies were put on the back burner when I was planning the wedding, but now that it is over and I had a few months to be absolutely lazy, I am starting to take pictures and read again.

I am so in love with this necklace. It makes such a plain outfit interesting. Forever 21 has really stepped up their game in the accessory department. No longer are the days of only plastic jewelry in neon colors. I'm also loving the basic burout tee because it is soo soft and v-neck. I bought the same one in gray (there goes the gray again).

Later that night we went to a friend's house for a Memorial Day BBQ andd he asked me if my shirt was see-through and before I could answer he then changed his mind and thought it was painted nude underneath. Once I told him that the nude was not painted on and that it was my actual skin (gasp!) he said that if he were Hubs he would have told me to change. I just laughed it off, but really you can't see anything because 1.) its not that sheer and 2.) its loose fitting so its not like you see everything. Either Hubs didn't notice or he just didn't care. I think its the latter because I have worn this tee on several times.

The past few times that I actually stepped foot into the mall, I ended up buying gray colored items. I don't know what it is, but I really loving it. Its the summer and I should really be pulling out all the brights right now, but when its gray with ruffles, how can I resist?

We went to a friend's graduation from law school, to a local eatery, and finally a local bar. I was a bit dressy for the bar, but I didn't want to be under-dressed for the graduation.

That is what I felt like yesterday. Monday evening I couldn't even eat when we went to a friend's BBQ. Well, I take that back, I couldn't eat the BBQ, but I made sure I ate dessert. Because no matter how sick you feel, you always can have dessert. Anyway, later that night I started getting cold chills and my back was bothering me like no other. I still don't know what happened, but my boss sent me home early yesterday so that I could rest. I really wanted to upload some pictures from the weekend, but decided to completely knock out at 3 in the afternoon on a workday. Wow, that felt really nice.

I was going to make a doctor's appointment just in case because I don't want to be sick on my trip next week. But since today I feel almost normal, I am going to hold off for a bit. This is where I will be in exactly one week. Just looking at these pictures makes me feel better.

Smooth me Away

Being a girl takes alot. I usually don't mind the upkeep (haircuts, eybrows, nails), but I hate shaving my legs. Its not that I cut myself all the time, but it does happen occasionally. I was skeptical to try Smooth Away at first, but thought "what the heck its only $10?"

I think it recommends that you use the product after a shower, but I wanted to try it out ASAP. For me, it worked great. You move the pad around a few times clockwise and then counter clockwise in the same area and then, voila, the hair is gone. I don't know if it will work on coarse hair, but it worked with my fine hair. It does seem to removed any dead skin cells as well which in turn looks like you just did a nice scrub on your legs. My legs did feel a little weird afterwards, but felt great after I put on some lotion. I think it is key to keep your legs mosturized after using Smooth Away.

I did this on Saturday and by Tuesday my legs were a little prickly (a little TMI, but I had to mention it). It doesn't have the lasting power of waxing, but is less painful than waxing.

What method do you use for hair removal? Have you ever purchased "As Seen on TV" items? If so, were you impressed?

This past weekend was hubs big 3-0 birthday and while we had great plans to go bowling and get real competitive with shuffleboard, it never happened. We started the day with his choice of breakfast: Migas for him and french toast for me. He then spent 6 hours in the Texas heat playing golf with a few buds. When he got home he crashed out for a few hours and decided lets just go to the bar since it was kinda late for bowling. There goes that old and boring theme again huh? Here is what I wore:

I have a long commute home from work everyday, it allows for lots of thinking. Sometimes I drive myself crazy thinking. What I've realized lately is that I have been talking to my friends less and less. I'm not sure what the real reason is yet, but most of the "friends" that were in my life faded out because we just didn't have much in common anymore. Our lives led us down different paths. I rather text than talk on the phone because sometimes I struggle to find something to talk about and it gets to that awkward silence. Am I becoming antisocial? Am I a bad friend? I much rather be at home with family and my husband on a Friday night than going out to the bar. Is this just me getting old and boring? Please tell me I am not the only one out there like this?

Anyway, I was browsing and found this gorgeous dress that Natalie Portman wore to the White House Correspondents Dinner. She is always so well put together and clasically beautiful.

Teach Me

First off, let me say that I finally got my camera back from Best Buy. I bought my camera a few years ago and purchased their protection plan. Apparently the automatic focus motor has gone out and the guy at Geek Squad says its no big deal and it can easily be fixed. If you don't know, all of Best Buy's protection plans go through Geek Squad. Well the tech tells me it should be about 2-3 weeks to get the camera fixed.

No big deal because I don't need it for anything and just need it fixed. Well 3 weeks rolls by and I don't hear anything from them. I call to get an update and all they can tell me is the service center received my camera and are working on it. Another 2 weeks roll by and they don't have any new status. At this point I am livid that they claim they don't have a number to call the service center and that they only deal with emails. Seriously, who does business like that? Long story short, I get my camera back after about 2 months after dealing with the worse customer service ever.

Now that my rant is over, I can get to the clothes. I've noticed that pretty much all my pictures are from work outfits and the one I am about to post is another work outfit. I guess I never think about it when I am getting ready to head out on the weekends. Hopefully I can remember this weekend!

I feel like this outfit makes me look like a teacher? Either way, I love this white button down. A nicely fit white button down is a "must have" for everyone's closet. It can be dressed down with a pair of jeans (a la Jen Aniston) or dressed up like the above.

I always have the hardest time finding button down shirts that fit me correctly and that do no "pop open" in the chest area. Most of my shirts I have to use clothing tape to make sure it stays closed, but with the above shirt I don't have to.

Good for the soul

I've always been interested in photography and when I started researching wedding photgraphers that interested grew even more. I love you can capture the emotions of the moment. One of my favorite type of pictures are laughing pictures. Yes, they can sometimes turn out horrible looking, but more often than not, it will be a great picture.

I'm lucky that my husband makes me laugh everyday, I think its good for the soul. I sometimes laugh at myself because sometimes I just look at him and want to smile. He is so animated that I am afraid that I will one day die of laughing so hard if our future children turn out like him.

Another thing that makes me smile is music. I don't know what it is about music, but it put me in a great mood this morning. I like to listen to all different types of music, mainly acoustic indie music, which iTunes likes to call singer/songwriter music, and my husband likes to call "happy go lucky" music.

I recently jumped on the bang bandwagon. I've always had bangs, but it was more of the little side swept bang. These new bangs are not the full on blunt bang because that just isn't my style. I went for a more "piecey" bang that can easily be swept to the side on the days when I'm not feel so great.

I just changed the template of my blog so please excuse the weird formatting in the previous posts. I am just too lazy to go back and try to edit them.

I Want to be like Nicole.

I've always admired Nicole Richie's style, with the exception of the "Simple Life" days or those days when she was a drug addict. Whether it was all a great masterpiece of Rachel Zoe or Nicole changing her life, I can't get over her new sense of style. She makes an effortless t-shirt and jeans look so chic and trendy.

I have come to admire her sense of style while being pregnant. Long gone are the days of strecty elastic waist pants and sweatshirts. Who knew you could be pregnant and still so stylish. I hope to be as stylish as Nicole when day, especially when I am pregnant. She doesn't even look pregnant in this picture.

Sailing Errands

Some people live by things they "hear", only to learn later in life it was a myth. There are lots of "fashion myths" such as the "never wear white after labor day" myth. I tend not to listen to them and just wear whatever I feel like. One myth I have never really figured out for myself is the horizontal stripe, does it really make you look fat?

I realized that on my body, I can't wear wide horizontal stripes they must be thin stripes. I was running errands this day and slipped on this short dress.

The stripes are really navy blue, its just difficult to tell from this picture. I love the nautical/sailor look for the summer with some wedges, always fun.

Friends in Low Places

My weekend was filled with lots of laughs, just how I like it. I am thankful for the friends that I have in my life. We may not always talk nor always see each other, but we are definitely there for each other. I've had my fair share of friends come and go, been the best of friends and the worst of friends, its all part of life. I can say that I am glad that at this point in my life I have weeded out the bad friends (the ones that are only there to bring you down) and been true to the ones that have been there for me through good and bad.

I envy those people who still have friends from high school or middle school. My friends are my college friends. Once I got to college I figured out that the friends I had in high school were not going in the same direction I was. So, I put myself out there, met some of the most interesting people ever. If you don't put yourself out there to meet people you never know who you might be missing out on. If I didn't join a particular organization that some people thought was ridiculous I would have never met my husband. I've met some of the greatest people I know from joining a business fraternity, wedding planning, and even online.

So put yourself out there, if you don't, you could be missing out on the love of your life.

I was watching E! news one day and they were showing this new nail product called Minx Nail Coverings. Apparently it is popular with some celebrities like Beyonce. What is it? Basically a nail sticker that is put on over your own fingernails with the help of a heating tool that makes the adhesive stick to your nail. You can get just regular colors or you can get designs or even custom make some to match your favorite shoe. I'm not sure how long these last or even how you take them off, but it looks like it has to be done in a salon. Here are some pictures:

Running in Heels

Does anyone else watch this show or am I the only one?

I normally don't watch reality shows, but nothing was on this particular day and there was a rerun of Running in Heels. So what the heck might as well watch. If you haven't seen a commerical for it, its on the the Style Network, and it follows 3 young ladies interning for Marie Claire. I don't watch it for the drama so much, its the fashion and the work that I am interested in.

When I was in college I interviewed for a fashion buyer intership with Foley's (at that time). I was on my third interview when I either did not impress them or asked them the wrong question. I think it was the latter. At the time of my interview there were talks of Federated buying out May Department stores and I had to ask, what would happen after the buyout? Well I didn't get a real answer or a call back after the interview.

With my heart broken, I decided to look for another fashion related internship and ended up getting one with Tommy Hilfiger. Although the intership wasn't glamourous, I had fun. I mainly did merchandising and a little bit a financial work behind the scenes. I liked it and its what I wanted to do. The end of the semester came, and it was time for the internship to end. I looked and looked for a job in the fashion world, but came up empty handed.

I hope that one day I am able to fulfill this dream of mine. Whether its to open up my own boutique later in life or work for a designer, I want the opportunity. Right now I need my good paying job, if my husband's business start booming like no other, he will let me persue my dreams, but for now I'll just continue working my 8-5.

I work for a hospital where the dress is business casual. So I have to be careful about what I wear to work. Most days I just slip on some slacks and a shirt, not much thought. I seem to only really put some thought into my outfit on days that I have meetings, or days I have a little extra time getting ready. Looking at other bloggers, I am jealous that they can wear almost anything you want! This is my menswear look for work, with a little edge from my layered chain necklace and nameplate necklace.

I am pretty sure my feet would hate me the next morning though.

My husband and I are planning on attending a friend's wedding in Playa de Carmen the beginning of June. What better excuse could I have to do a little bit of shopping? We will be there 4 days for sure, but are also thinking about extending our stay by a few days for our little "mini moon". Since it is difficult for him to take off a long period of time, we decided to just do a bunch of mini trips.

What I am currently looking for is a new bikini. I already have my basic black and white bikins and a black one piece that have been very good to me the past couple of years. I am looking for something a little more colorful and fun this year. I normally just go to Target looking for bikinis but haven't been impressed with their selection thus far. I normally don't spend over $30 for my bathing suits, but since we are going out of town I can justify spending up to $100. Here are a few I spotted that are the style I am looking for.

I am no makeup expert, but I do like trying out new makeup products, what girl doesn't? I have always had a difficult time finding what works with my features and skin type (read I've spent alot of money on junk that doesn't work for me).

Well if you are like me with asian eyes that don't have those deep eyes with nice creases, your eyeshadows probably crease all the time. Sometimes my eyeliner will do the same thing. Last year I tried Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Potion. It worked but the bottle is really weird shaped and you didn't get much bang for your buck. I just got in my new eyeshadow primer by Too Faced called Shadow Insurance. I used this on Sunday and it last all day. Held my shadow and liner in place from about 9am-10pm. Love it! Its in an easy squeezable tube so you get a big bang for your buck.

This order I focused on my eyes so I bought a new mascara since I was running out of my drugstore brand. I love find new mascaras that work great and are inexpensive. Everyone knows that Diorshow works wonders, but at $25 a tube it can get kind pricey. I ordered Buxom Lash by Bare Escentuals. I love the brush it comes with! The brush is very important to me in any mascara because that is what makes it clumpy or not. This brush has tons of little bristles and is shaped in an hourglass figure which I think helps it grab the little lashes on the inside. It volumized and lengthen my lashes all day without getting flaky or smudging.

I wanted to post this for FJ because she recently bought a very simlar dress. I bought mine a little over a year ago at H&M when I was in NYC. The dress actually came with a belt that is made from the same material, but I don't care for it too much.

I was going to meet a friend after work for some martinis, so I decided to toughen it up a bit.

I love ruffles, but I think you have to be careful with them because they can be overdone (just like anything else, moderation is key). Ruffles add a little "oomph" and girliness to any outfit. This is something I wore to work on a casual friday. After looking at this picture, I can tell my jeans are a little too loose on me (and this picture is taken at a horrible angle and I look like I have the shortest legs). The only bad thing about loosing weight is that your clothes don't fit properly anymore.

I think I mentioned on here that I have been itching to shop. If the hubz noticed that I haven't gone shopping in awhile, its a big thing. So yesterday I didn't have to work late so I made a pit stop at the mall. Since I live in the woods, the mall by me does not have much, but I do what I can with it.

I bought mainly work close because I have lost quite a bit of weight due to wedding stress and none of my pants fit me. However, I did find a super cute blazer at Dillard's. The sales lady told me that they sold alot of their stuff over the weekend since there was an additional 40% off. I told her I knew about it but couldn't come because of my wedding. Damn wedding gets in the way of everything! hahaha I kid. I'll take a pic of it when I get the oppotunity to wear it.

I picked up this shoes from Bakers as well. I saw them awhile back, but didn't think they were worth the orginal price of $80. I got them on sale for $40. They have a platform in it so it doesn't put all that pressure on your ankles. Just waiting for the time I get to wear them out!

The ones I got are actually ivory on black instead of black suede on black. I think these would look super cute with a tuxedo look or a short skirt.

Freak Out!

One week away and I am starting to freak out now. I still have a bunch of things to do and there just doesnt seem to be enough time. I am currently behind at work and was hoping to catch up on some stuff before I take a few days off, but that didn't happen. I will try to stay late at work today.

A word of advice, do all of your DIY things early. Well I couldn't have done this one early, but I just decided to scratch out my escort cards. I really wanted them, but I decided at this point they are too much work and I would also have to rent another table cloth for the table and work on the decoration for the table. I don't want it that bad anymore.

I still have to make our programs, put together favor boxes, verify times with my vendors, decorate the house for the tea ceremony, finalize all timelines, make sure everyone knows what we need them to do, so escort cards are last on my mind.

One week...then I can go back to my normal self.

It really hit me on Sunday when I took K's cousins to church. We went through mass, prayed, and when mass ended said goodbye to Father Vincent (family friend and conducting our wedding ceremony). He asked if I was ready for the big day and of course I said yes, I couldn't wait for it to be here. We always grab one of the weekly newsletters to see what is going on in the next few weeks in our church community.

Just as I was skimming over the topics walking out the church, I saw it. K and I's names in bold. Congratulating us for our upcoming marriage. All of the planning, tears, anger fits for this one day that is 10 days away. It is really happening.

A few months ago I figured out how to cut back on the self induced stressed caused by the wedding planning. I just stopped talking about it to people other than K and family. It has seriously helped. But now that it is closer to the wedding my mother is driving me nuts. I cried my eyes out yesterday.

There a long history on why my mother and I don't see eye to eye. I am my father's daughter. Sad to say, but I see why they got divorced. Anyway, my mother had never really been a traditional Vietnamese woman, heck she got a divorce! But now for my wedding she wants everything to be like we were back in the motherland! All the "traditional" things I am doing for the wedding are not traditional enough for her. We fought, I cried, and then I didnt talk to her at the menu tasting unless I had to.

I was so upset, I called my father. He agreed that these little "traditional" things my mom wants done is not important. All that matters is that we are happy and that we start our lives together. I puffy heart my dad. K calls me daddy's little girl, which is true though. My sister is like my mother and I am like my father.

This has become a long rant. I can't wait for the planning to be over and done with!

I got my ring in the other day and it is perfect! I love how it goes hand in hand with my engagement ring. It adds some extra bling to my round solitaire (with a thin band). It also looks simple and classy on its own. I am hoping to buy another one maybe on the 5 year anniversary and stack them.

I ordered K's wedding band the day after mine and it should be there today when I get home. We needed something durable since K works with his hands alot. He probably won't be wearing it much during the week when he is out on the field, but he doesn't want to bang it up. We decided to go with palladium because it will not scratch as much as platinum and the price is much better than platinum. I showed him some titanium and tungsten bands but he wasn't impressed. My mom has been pushing me to buy a cake cutting gown. I know this probably seems really weird to most of you, but back in the day (like 20 years ago when my aunts got married) it was the thing to do. In fact, you also had a first dance dress. Well I never really cared to have another dress. I've already spent alot on my wedding gown and I plan on wearing it all night. And plus, she's not the one thats going to pay for it. However, if I had all the money in the world and already bought my dream wedding and had about a couple of thousand just laying around, I would probably buy this beauty.

80 Days....

...My heart stopped for a moment when I saw the number. In less than three months I will be married. Why am I nervous? I have no idea. K and I have been dating for 6 years (this month) and have been living together for over 3 years. Our marriage prep sponsors asked us a question "what will change for you when you get married?"

I had no answer for this. The only thing I could think of was learning to work on the finances together. But that answer was not good enough for me. I was trying to think if anything about me would change. I thought, nothing would change. K and I really take each other for who we are. Opposites, yes, but it somehow works well for us. Our sponsors said that it was OK I didn't have an answer and that they could already see from just 2 meetings that we can be completely ourselves with each other and talk about our true feelings.

Does it make me vain because it made me feel good that complete strangers can see how much we love each other?
